ATTENTION:  The next club meeting is Tuesday, February 21st.    We will have a very special guest speaker, Bill Pasternak of “Amateur Radio News Line” fame! Bill was one of the founding members of the club in the late Sixties, and has many great stories about some of the equipment we were using in those days. Bill will be appearing live via video conference from his home in California. We will be trying many new things like this in the future, including the possibility of streaming live feeds of the club meetings.

I would like to thank the members of the club that gave up there Super Bowl weekend to teach soldiers of the New York Guard. The instructors were KB2BSL Gary, Charlie WA2GUG, Jim KB2LEB, Joe N2TEE and myself.  We held the class at the historic Manhattan armory for a two day condensed Technician class and test.   The instructors presented extensive all day lessons from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.  We discussed electronic theory with power point slides, and backed it up with hands-on demonstrations of electronic theory.   Everyone enjoyed the class, and we have been invited back to hold additional HAM radio classes.

Repeater Status:   The repeater has been off the air for a few weeks, and a GE Master II (donated by Steve, WB2WAK) is in the process of being tested by Jim, KC2LEB.  The newly cut crystals for our frequency have been installed.  The repeater is being burned on a bench, for a stability test.  What’s left is some controller programming, and to test the new Echolink/IRLP node.  We have a lot of work left to do on at the repeater site.  The next trip to the site, we will be installing the new repeater, removing the old equipment, and if time permits, installing a newer antenna. Please be patient, we will be back on the “Air” shortly.

In the interim, the KC2LEB UHF (440.5500 / 445.5500 PL-141.3, Staten Island North), and the clubs WG2MSK D-Star repeaters are available for use. Look for the KCRA Monday Night Club Net @8:30 following the Big Apple Traffic Net on Jim's repeater.

We are looking for some Ideas on meeting topics for 2012, comments are welcome. Please send a note to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Become Radioactive!   Come to the KCRA meetings!  Learn something participating in our Hands-On-Labs! The Kings County Repeater Association needs your support at our monthly meetings!

If you have any ideas that pertain to amateur radio, we would like to hear from you!

Have any interesting HAM related pictures, old members, old events, send us a note; we would like to post it on the site!

I think most of us are members of the ARRL.  If you are not, I would like you to consider becoming a member of the ARRL. The ARRL has a lot to offer you in many ways, and they protect the amateur radio bands from commercial use!
