2012 Events

The next meeting of the Kings County Repeater Association will be held on Tuesday June 19th at The Guild For Exceptional Children 260 68th Street Brooklyn, NY 11220. The meeting starts at 7:00 with coffee social time beginning at 6:30. Limited off street parking is available.

This month is a "Hands on Lab" were we will learn about computer logging for Field Day, bring your Windows laptop (or Mac with the appropriate VM, like Parallels).

It's a party!

Join us as we celebrate our new and operational repeater system! Lift a glass of bubbly as we honor our financial donors and technical team members who helped make the new system possible. Followed by a few words from our president as he reads the dedication plaque (to be placed at repeater site).

Light snacks and refreshments (including champagne for those over 21) will be served.

This meeting will also feature a special guest speaker, Mike Liscenco, N2YBB. Currently our ARRL NLI Section manager, Mike is running for ARRL Hudson Division Director.

The Big Apple Traffic Net can once again be heard on the KC2RA repeater system!

The net is held each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 8:00 PM. The repeater will automatically join the appropriate IRLP reflector at 7:45PM, and will automatically disconnect at 8:45 PM, the net may also be heard on the following repeaters: KC2LEB (440.550, +5, PL 141.3). KC2GOW (445.125, -5, PL 141.3), K2CJP (145.410, -.6, PL 114.8), and of course KC2RA (146.430, +1, PL 136.5). Echolink access to the net is via node 132967 (KC2LEB/R).

The August 21st meeting of the Kings County Repeater Association will be held starting at 7:00 PM (Coffee & Cake social time at 6:30), all meetings are held at: The Guild For Exceptional Children 260 68th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11220. Limited off street parking is available.

This meeting will feature special guest speaker and KCRA member Jack Handler, KB2BCC. Jack will give a presentation on various testing equipment and how to properly use them.

Once again the KCRA will be participating in International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend, being held this year August 18 – 19. On Saturday August 18th the club will set up at the Nortins Point Lighthouse located in the community of Sea Gate in Coney Island, Brooklyn.

Operating activities will include several HF stations on various bands operating voice and digital modes such as PSK-31, Feld Hell, RTTY, and D-Star. Stations will operate on Saturday only between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

This event, open to all club members, prospective club members, and guests, is completely free of charge. Never worked HF before? Don’t worry, we’ll show you how, and get you on the air! As this is a private community, pre-registration is required.

Talk in (starting at 8:30 AM) will be on the following repeaters: KC2RA (146.430, +1, PL 136.5), KC2LEB (440.550, +5, PL 141.3), WG2MSK (445.475, -5, D-Star), Echolink nodes KC2LEB/R & KC2RA/R, and D-Star reflector 020A.

Limited off street parking is available. This months meeting will feature a presentation on "Go Bags" by Joe, N2TEE and Vinny, KB2PSI.

Please be advised that nominations for all offices of the Kings County Repeater Association Inc., a New York State nonprofit corporation, will be received by the club secretary beginning at the September 18th meeting and concluding during the October 16th meeting.

All full members in good standing are eligible and encouraged to run for any office of the KCRA. If no challenger for an office is received by the October meeting, the incumbent (should they choose to accept) shall be deemed re-elected to serve 2013 as a officer/board member of the Kings County Repeater Association, Inc. at the November meeting. If two or more members are running for the same office, a paper ballot election will be held during the November meeting. This notice shall remain posted until election results are available.

The KCRA Monday Night Club net returns this (and every) Monday, September 17th at 9:00 PM on the KC2RA repeater 146.430 MHz +1 MHz PL: 136.5. Echolink Node 64300.

 

Starting Monday October 1st, 2012, balloting will officially begin for the ARRL office of Hudson Division Director.

If you have an Email address on file with the ARRL, you are eligible to vote electronically and should have already received a notice of the upcoming balloting.

If you do not have an Email address on file with the ARRL, paper ballots will be mailed beginning Monday October 1st, 2012 to you address on file with the league.

All votes are cast as secret ballots.

It has been close to a decade since an election has been held for this office.

 

More important than who you choose to vote for is that all eligible ARRL members cast their vote in this election and let you voice be heard.
